love: writing

i have been the worse blogger over the past year. i literally haven't posted in like 10 months. so here goes.

when i was visiting sharla rose in colorado last month, she asked me if i still write and still blog. it made me remember how much i loved writing and blogging about my adventures when i was abroad in spain. i so value every single blog and writing sample (e.g., journal entries, school essays, letters, etc.) i wrote while i was living in sevilla. it's nice to be able to reflect on the things you felt and experienced and how that transcends into my life now.

i have been writing, just not in a public forum. and i often forget how important it is to write for myself as a means of expression but i forget how to write for others too. i think you express yourself differently when you know its something no one will ever see. or vice versa. not bad, but just different.

On my current playlist: The A Team By Ed Sheeran & Southern Comfort Zone by Brad Paisley & every song on Taylor Swift's new cd - RED

Currently reading: Mockingjay (in the Hunger Games series) - I've read this book about 5 times now, and it's my favorite in the series (SPOILER ALERT) because I feel like Katniss has to lose herself and really go crazy to realize that she's mad without Peeta. She has to go crazy to realize how much she loves him. How do you find that kind of love? & I'm also reading To Kill a Mockingbird for the 1000th time (one of my all time favorites), I always wish that I would've grown up like Scout Finch. I wish that Atticus could've taught me all my life lessons.

"Listening is the oldest and perhaps the most powerful tool of healing. It is often through the quality of our listening and not the wisdom of our words that we are able to affect the most profound changes in the people around us. When we listen, we offer with our attention an opportunity for wholeness. Our listening creates sanctuary for the homeless parts within the other person. That which has been denied, unloved, devalued by themselves and others. That which is hidden. In this culture the soul and the heart too often go homeless. Listening creates a holy silence. When you listen generously to people, they can hear the truth in themselves, often for the first time. And in the silence of listening, you can know yourself in everyone. Eventually you may be able to hear, in everyone and beyond everyone, the unseen singing softly to itself and to you." ~Rachel Naomi Reman
"Awareness born of love is the only force that can bring healing and renewal. Out of our love for another person, we become more willing to let our old identities wither and fall away, and enter a dark night of the soul, so that we may stand naked once more in the presence of the great mystery that lies at the core of our being. This is how love ripens us -by warming us from within, inspiring us to break out of our shell, and lighting our way through the dark passage to new birth." -John Welled
